Kashar Cheese Packaging Machine

A kashar cheese packaging machine is a fully automatic line that places kashar blocks, slices or portions into thermoformed packs and seals them under vacuum or modified atmosphere (MAP). Correct packaging delays mould, prevents moisture loss and extends shelf life.

Why packaging matters for kashar cheese

Kashar keeps breathing during maturation and has a delicate moisture balance. Oxygen left in the pack speeds up surface mould, while a leaking pack dries the cheese and spoils its colour and texture.

In thermoform packaging the bottom film is heat-formed into a cavity that fits the cheese exactly. After the product is placed, the air is removed or replaced with a suitable gas mix and the pack is hermetically sealed with the top film, so every pack leaves the line consistent, leak-proof and retail-ready.

Vacuum or MAP?

Vacuum packaging is common for cheese blocks and products stored for longer periods: the air is removed, the film hugs the product and the oxygen mould needs is gone.

For sliced kashar, MAP is preferred. A mix that typically contains carbon dioxide and nitrogen keeps slices from sticking, preserves their shape and gives a neater shelf presentation. Etrapack machines run both methods; the choice is made together based on format and sales channel.

Which kashar formats can be packed?

By changing the die, the same thermoform line can switch between weights and formats. Etrapack's drawer-type die system makes this change in minutes.

  • Cheese blocks (thick blocks requiring high forming depth)
  • Sliced kashar for retail and HoReCa
  • Portion and breakfast packs
  • Aged kashar, toast cheese and regional cheeses

Advantages of an Etrapack kashar packaging line

Food-contact surfaces are stainless steel and the line is designed for easy cleaning. The machines are CE-certified, built to ISO 9001 standards in Ikitelli, Istanbul and backed by Etrapack's after-sales service team.

  • Vacuum and MAP options on one line
  • High forming depth for cheese blocks
  • Clear top film for a clean shelf presentation
  • Fast die change with the drawer system

How is kashar packed on a thermoform line?

  1. The bottom film is heated and formed in the die to fit the cheese.
  2. Kashar blocks, slices or portions are placed into the cavities.
  3. Air is removed (vacuum) or a gas mix is added (MAP).
  4. The cavities are hermetically sealed with the top film.
  5. Packs are cut, optionally labelled and leave the line.

?Frequently Asked Questions

Is vacuum or MAP better for kashar cheese?

Vacuum is more common for blocks and MAP for slices. Vacuum removes oxygen and delays mould; MAP stops slices from sticking and keeps their shape. Etrapack machines run both methods.

Can different kashar weights be packed on the same machine?

Yes. The thermoform line switches sizes and weights by changing the die, and Etrapack's drawer-type die system does this in minutes.

Which films are used for kashar packaging?

Bottom films are typically PVC, PET or PP; top films are barrier structures such as PP + EVOH. Film type and thickness depend on the format and shelf-life target.
